How to Find Motivation (as a SAHM)

Being a stay at home mom definitely has its perks. Unlimited cuddles, taking the day slow, seeing all the moments first. There are a lot of downsides that we try not to mention, like every meltdown, feeling un-noticed, alone, and just utterly exhausted. 

Some days man, I am on it. I have meal planned, made it to the grocery store, cleaned the entire house, kept the baby happy, responded to all the emails needed, and made a delicious homemade meal. Other days, I'm lucky if I run a brush through my own hair. I have yet to figure out what or why the days differ so much but I like to think some days you're just way more motivated than others. This post is my advice on doing your best to avoid those daunting, unmotivated days :)

1. Get dressed.

This one probably sounds like a no brainer but real talk- it's not. I can't tell you how many times I've looked at the clock and it's going on 3pm and I'm still in what I went to bed in the night before. NOT COOL. There is just something that makes you want to do so much more when you actually put a flattering pair of jeans (*cough* leggings) on, a simple style to your hair, and a light touch of make up. This is crucial to do in the morning because before you know it, the day is over and your husband is home with a terrified look on his face.

2. Unplug

I need to do this more. Nothing is more deflating than the comparison feeling. Social media is so wonderful for so may reasons, but it's also really easy to get caught up in other peoples' lives + to forget about your own. I am for sure guilty of this. I have to remind myself frequently that social media is everyone's highlight reel. So take some time and just focus on your day, your home, and your family. <3

3. Give yourself a break

Sometimes your body + mind are telling you it's time for a break. Lack of motivation usually means you need time to reset and recharge. This one is hard for me because I'm so bull headed. It's hard for me to ask for help. But some days, I tell my husband "I just need an hour". What I need to do better at is taking that hour for myself and not to clean, do laundry, or other household chores! :)

4. Re-evaluate what matters

This. Sometimes our attention is spread in way too many directions, some of which don't actually matter. I know I am guilty of this. I find it helpful to write down a list of everything I need to do, walk way for an hour, and go back and see what is feasible, and what truly matters. 

5. Create a routine

This is my last piece of advice, although it's hard. Every mother knows that no two days are ever the same. But for me, getting up in the morning with my son (which is always ways too early), knowing he is the absolute happiest in the mornings make them so much better. I always make a cup of coffee + enjoy the slowness of the wee hours of the mornings. And thankfully, my son is insanely routined. Our days are spent sticking to what works and what keeps him happy. Happy mama, happy baby, happy life! <3
