I love newborns & I love photography, that's no secret. Combine the two & I'm in heaven! While I absolutely ADORE posed newborn photos (my son's were just that!), I, as an artist, much prefer non-posed newborn portraits. I believe babies come out of the womb with their own personality. When you lay them down, no two babes are alike. Some stretch out, some curl up, some cover their face, others open wide eyed! There are many times during my shoots that I hear their parents say, "She came out with that face!" or, "Her first ultrasound was that exact pose!" And in those moments, they're my favorite.
Capturing their baby and his/her personality is so important to me. I find lifestyle and story telling portraits drive me. When in a client's home, I have to get creative to get artistic shots, and often times, lighting is difficult. I love being challenged and I adore coming to my client's homes. I capture them where their love first started, where their baby was created. I photograph them in their newborn's nursery. I get to capture all the nick knacks, photos, and that beautiful crib they picked out for their brand new baby. It's. the. best. <3
While I do re-create some photos of newborns, often times, no two photos are the same. I want my client's to show these photos to the children and say, "You still sleep like that!".
And that, that is why I don't pose newborn babies.
