In a world where birth is portrayed as the most agonizing pain you will ever experience, it's SO important to not only educate yourself, but remind yourself every single day how amazing this upcoming experience is. Is labor painful? Yes. But it's supposed to be!
While my own personal birth plan is an unmedicated birth, it wasn't an easy decision. I've obviously never given birth before so it's easy for me to be very apprehensive about declining all pain medications. But being a huge advocate for a mother's choice and being a birth photographer, I made the decision because that's what's best for ME and my family.
Choosing an unmedicated labor is a choice you, (I feel) need to make long in advance to your birth. It's something you need to prepare yourself for every. single. day. Educate yourself, research your options, and focus on the positive thoughts.
I made these birth affirmation cards a few weeks ago and just the simple process of making them immediately had me excited. I started leaving them around the house, in my office, and even in my car as a daily reminder that my body was MADE to do this. I can't stress how important it is to have a daily discussion with yourself and focus on the positivity around your upcoming birth. I've even found since placing these cards around my life that more positive affirmations and words come to me even when I'm not looking for them. The other day I was reading an article completely unrelated to birth & the word "warrior" jumped out at me. How awesome is that?! Goddess, power, strength, and so many more powerful words. THESE are what I surround myself with every single day.
While these particular set of cards are created for birth, you can make affirmations for anything in life. Whether you're trying to conceive, looking for a job, or just overall trying to increase your happiness in life. I cannot recommend enough to take some time and make your own personal affirmation cards. You will enjoy the process and I promise, it WILL help! I have a good friend who lost her baby not too long ago and she told me she is so scared that her body will not be able to carry a baby. She knows she can conceive but is terrified her body won't be able to handle a pregnancy. I told her to make affirmations. Place them on her mirror, where she gets ready each day, on the fridge, in her planner. Your body CAN do this. You WILL carry this baby. Your creator is NOT a careless mechanic. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive words is so, so important.
No matter what you're going through or preparing for, know the power of positivity. Believing in yourself is the first step. Love always, B.
