This is the first blog of a weekly series I want to start doing! "Mom Monday" will be a series of various topics and discussions, and a lot of mom complaining. Ha! I am writing this currently at 5:13am on Monday, tired as a dog. Complaint #1.
Truth is, I have NEVER been a morning person. When I worked a 9-5, I would sleep in till the very last minute, giving myself just enough time to throw my hair in a ponytail, brush my teeth, and run out the door. So imagine the flipped upside down that happened when my son came into this world. Babies are born with their days and nights mixed up, so that was fun. While I barely survived the newborn stage, around 3 months, things got better. Then the first week or two of 4 months he slightly regressed in his sleeping habits, and NOW at 5 months, he legit is making me a zombie.
Yesterday was pretty rough. We were up for the day around 4:15am. My son has been waking up insanely early and then only taking 15 minute naps till he finally crashes in the afternoon. It makes for a super long and tiring morning. In the midst of my frustration this morning, I did the usual mom thing for me: i googled it. WHY WON'T MY 5 MONTH OLD SLEEP PAST 4AM?! I found a really helpful article, that basically explained what's going on in my darling little son's brain and why it's difficult for him to settle down once he wakes. Babies at this age are like a sponge, taking in everything around them. They're becoming physically stronger, able to do more during playtime, and their brains are developing super fast, and so much is going on. While this article was super helpful, the reality still sucks! The lady that wrote the article claimed she was some baby expert, who had 4 kids, and she said 4-5 month olds are terrible lol! The good news she mentioned, is that around 6 months things tend to get much better. Babies have adapted more to the changes they're going through and have a better handle on how to work through it and put themselves back to sleep. Let us all say a little prayer that is the truth.
Sure, some of you may be thinking, pssssh I get up at that time everyday. Y'all, did I mention i'm NOT a morning person?! I hope it will change, but early mornings are not my thing. But of course for my beautiful, darling, adorable little son, I push through. Coffee has become my newest form of life support these past few days. THANKFULLY, my sweet husband helps out when and where he can with Asher. I think it was Saturday morning he got up with him and let me sleep till almost 9. WHAT?! I felt like a brand new woman. Speaking of which: guys, if you love her, give her the gift of sleep. While I'm sure every girl loves diamonds, flowers, chocolates, my love language is sleep. Save your money. My love is free lolol. My husband knows this and does great at noticing when a surprise gift of sleep is required. But sadly, today is Monday and he has a full day of work ahead...SOOOOO that means I'm up with little nugget. Playing Mickey Mouse, reading the same 3 books 6 times each, and sipping coffee like it's going outta style.
I would absolutely LOVE your feedback on the idea of this Mom Monday thing! Let me know what you're struggling with as a mama, what you're currently loving, any products you feel are lifesavers, and really anything mom related! I'm super excited to continue this series and connect with more women who are going through the same struggles and triumphs as us! <3
